I just started an internship with Dragonfly Expeditions and one of my first tasks is to introduce myself on this blog. So let’s get this started:
My name is Philipp Grimm and I was born in the city of Neuss early in the morning on November 20th, 1986. I grew up in Meerbusch, which is a suburb of Düsseldorf, the capital of the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia where my family still lives. In my childhood I loved to stroll through the woods and build up little camps with my friends. Fortunately, my parents loved to travel and they instilled in me the love and curiosity of exploring unknown places. This gave me the opportunity to see many countries all over Europe, including Spain with the Balearic and the Canary Islands, Portugal, Croatia, the United Kingdom and The Netherlands.
After I graduated from high school in 2006, I attended RWTH Aachen University with a major in Applied Geography and a minor in Economics. I received my bachelor’s degree in August 2009 and started my Masters in Leisure and Tourism Geography at the University of Trier in October 2009 where I will graduate with a master’s degree in early 2012.
During my years of study I had several part-time jobs such as a bartender in a cocktail bar, working in a casino, in a grocery store and also as a student assistant. In addition, I did an internship with a tourism marketing company in the summer of 2008. I also worked for the same company at the world’s biggest tourism trade show ITB in Berlin in 2009 where I met Uwe and Charles, who were representing Miami adjacent to my booth. They captured my attention with their vision of sustainable tourism and their interesting tour itineraries which is why I decided to apply for an internship with Dragonfly Expeditions.
In my leisure time I love traveling (of course), hiking, reading, meeting friends and just enjoying nature. I am also a big fan of every kind of motion picture and I am always ready for all kinds of new experiences.
What I like most about living in Florida so far is the huge biodiversity, the lush vegetation, the unexpected rich culture and of course the tropical climate.
After graduating from university I would like to work for a tour operator and design custom tours in exotic places.
I am glad to have the opportunity to experience so many things with Dragonfly Expeditions and I am looking forward to a great time in Florida which will be my home for the next 6 months.
